Online Litter Announcements
As of today, you should be able to post your own announcements of new or upcoming litters. Simply fill out the form and click the button. Go under Information and Litters to find the button. All submissions will be held for review (just in case) and should be released within 48 hours. Each submission triggers an e-mail so I'll be notified. As well, if there is a problem with the submission, all of the fields plus some error information should be included in the e-mail that gets generated so your information won't be lost.

Site Changes
There are two new features to be aware of. First, note the 2010 Specialty Logo is now prominently displayed. Thanks to Lori Thomas (N-uendo Belgian Shepherds) for her wonderful artwork. Expect to see more of the logo in the future. If you haven't contacted Del to volunteer to help in some way, please give it some thought.
The rescue page has frequently been empty (that's a good thing) and we've used it to list people who are looking for Belgians. We now have a new page specifically for people that want a Belgian. Listings on the page are not an endorsement by the Pacific Section or the BSDCC of the prospective owner but will provide an opportunity for members to respond if interested. I'm sure our members will do their own "qualification" process for prospective owners.

Sparky
'Sparky', the Malinois in Washington state, is no longer in need of a home. Apparently he's found a permanent home where he'll get to work at a variety of performance events including obedience and agility. A big 'way to go' to Sparky's new owners.

Photo Uploads Now Available
You can now upload pictures directly from your PC to our website for publication. Pictures up to 1 Mb, depending on your connection speed, can be uploaded. (My own experience with dial-up at 56K suggests 500 Kb is probably about the best I can do before the page times out.) If it's more than 1 Mb, it's probably a BMP file that was never designed to be sent over the Internet. File formats supported are JPEG, PNG and GIF. E-mail us if you have a BMP file and need help converting it to a more appropriate format. With each photo, you can provide a caption (for use in the gallery), or some information about a win, litter etc. This is a chance to promote your litter, brag about a big win or forward some news about a recent show or event. Access is from the "Photos" menu item.
Each picture submitted will be reviewed and may be cropped, scaled or adjusted to make it more web-friendly. The caption or information you provide will help determine where and how the image is displayed on the site.
Don't forget that you can submit information about upcoming events on-line as well. Go to our "Events" page and click the "New Event" button.

Herding with the Pacific Section Wendi Daechsel
Two members of the Pacific Section took part in what might be called a herding marathon in Laidlaw, British Columbia in May.
Lynn Leach and her husband Jim once again opened up their home and property to four days of herding trials. The Rottweiler Club, organized by Gwen Haynes of Calgary, held CKC Stock Dog and Arena trials on May 17th and 18th while your Pacific Section hosted AHBA (American Herding Breed Association) trials on May 19th and 20th. This marks the second year where the Belgian Shepherd Club has teamed up with the Australian Cattle Dog club to host a trial over the May long weekend. In fact, the trial was so successful that the ACD club has asked us to plan for year #3 in 2008. It's nice to see both clubs working together so well to promote the sport of herding for our dogs (it ain't just for Border Collies anymore!). Several members of our Pacific Section have stepped up to assist with the ACD National Specialty to be held at Heritage Park in Chilliwack on September 29, 30 and October 1st. The ACD club approached our own Del Beaulacs of Vancouver Island to be their Trial Secretary for the specialty. They were so impressed with the outstanding work done by Del with our own specialty in April 2005. Well done Del.
Atim 'n' Teseko Desperado HS, SDS, HRD1. HTD1 (Tony) and Atim's Lexus Jewel, ADC, HS, CGN, SDS (Jewel) competed all four days. In the CKC trials, Jewel accumulated qualifying scores on each of her Stock Dog Started courses and can now add the title SDS to her name. However, Jewel ran into problems in her afternoon Herding Intermediate trials when it came to driving. Up to that point she was running at 95% accuracy.
Tony competed at the SDI (Stock Dog Intermediate) level this year, having earned his SDS title last May, but also ran into problems when he had to drive the sheep away.
Participation in our AHBA trials was overwhelming. All spots were booked (40 dogs per day) by our closing date. In addition to our Belgians Tony and Jewel, the entries included Australian Cattle Dogs, Australian Shepherds, Rottweilers, a Shiloh Shepherd, Welsh Corgi and Border Collies.
Tony was successful in his Herding Trial Dog run and can now boast about his newest title HTD1 (herding trial dog level 1). It will be "back to school" for both Tony and Jewel this summer to perfect their driving techniques. Watch out for these "student drivers".
Jewel did very well in the HRD and HTD trials that we held on Saturday and Sunday. Her HTD1 run on Sunday afternoon was picture perfect and she took 1st place out of ten dogs – finishing with a score of 84 out of 90. Combined with her previous runs over the weekend, Jewel walked away the High Scoring Belgian award. The prize being two one hour lessons with John Carter.
It was great to hang out again with friends we made last year. Good luck to all of you who are trialing this year. Enjoy the great weather and your dogs! That'll do.
Check out the gallery for some more photos from the event.
